An Oasis of Biodiversity
The Field is former agricultural land which has been largely left to naturally regenerate. In a landscape dominated by commercial forest it is an oasis of biodiversity and is a key part of a corridor of native woodland which stretches up Strathard.

Kinlochard Ecology Group
The Ecology group has monitored and surveyed The Field and the Water of Chon (which borders the land) to record the vast range of species.
Fauna
They’re already here and more will come: birds, reptiles, mammals, insects and amphibians – the diverse native habitats of The Field have made it a wildlife haven.
Flora
Local enthusiasts and experts have found and documented many species.
Protected species
As a corridor of natural woodland many species frequent The Field as they travel along Strathard. We have several protected species including otter, badger, adder, red squirrel and our most recent addition has been beaver!
Bug Life River Surveys
The Kinlochard Ecology group has worked in partnership with the Riverfly Project to help monitor the invertebrates in the Water of Chon. This is helping us to understand more about the health of our river.
